Review: Naraku V.2 CNC Clutch Bell

Link: Naraku – Price: €60

Todays review will cover a CNC clutch bell by Asian tuning specialist Naraku. Two of them were sent over by German tuning shop Racing Planet and are up for grabs after the click…

Introduction

CNC machined parts have been one of the big things over the last years in the scooter tuning scene. They not only look good but due to its special manufacturing process (CNC parts are milled out of a single piece of aluminium steel) they are also stronger and therefore last longer than traditional cast iron or sand casted aluminium parts.

The clutch bell is one of the most stressed parts in the drive train of a modern scooter engine. The Clutch bell temperature often exceeds 100˚ Celsius and when overheated the engine power can not be transferred to the rear wheel properly anymore. In the worst case the heat causes the clutch bell to warp or even break.

The advantage of a CNC clutch bell is obvious. Due to the fact that it’s milled out of one solid block of aluminium steel the CNC bell is very rigid allowing it to withstand high temperatures without deforming. The rigidity of the CNC design also gives the option to remove large amounts of the bell surface which helps keeping the bell as well as the clutch cool and lowering the weight.

In the box

The matte cardboard box is nice to look at and feels valuable. The print states “manufactured according to Japanese OEM standards” which pretty much means that the quality of the product is at the same level as the original part. Inside of the box you’ll find the clutch bell held in place by some pretty black foam.

The content lacks of any promotional or instructional material which on the other hand might not exactly be needed for a product as a clutch bell. On the other hand a lot of customers feel safer when having assembly instructions provided along with the item.

Features

The Naraku V.2 CNC clutch bell clocks in at 504 grams and is therefore a good bit lighter than the original bell. It still has enough weight to support the engine in its flywheel momentum but increases responsiveness. The stock Paggio clutch bell for example weighs about 800grams.

Besides that the CNC bell features huge cutouts that help keeping the clutch cool, be it the stock or a racing clutch.

Unfortunately the Naraku clutch bell does not suport the adjustment of the Stage6 clutch spring pre-load whilst installed.

Looks and build quality

There is no doubt that CNC’d parts look great and on clutch bells the machining process comes into full effect. The cutouts are beautifully shaped and add a very sporty look to the transmission of every scooter. The clutch bell has a perfect fitting, is free of any sharp edges and doesn’t require any adjustment work before it can be mounted. Plug and play.

The matte finish of the clutch bell does the rest and it is guaranteed that the investment into the Naraku clutch bell is a one off as it will surely outlive your average scooter engine…

Value for money

At 60€ it is hard to believe that the clutch bell is indeed milled out of one solid block of aluminium steel. Even in Asia CNC machines are expensive. Milling a similar part in Europe would cost you a small fortune and the result would be of a similar quality. Excellent value for money!

Availability

The Naraku V.2 CNC clutch bell is available now for the majority of 50cc scooter engines (Piaggio, Minarelli,  Peugeot, CPI, Keeway, etc.) and some Asian Maxi Engines (GY6).

The main distributor of Naraku in Europe (Racing-Planet.de) is offering shipping to most countries.

Summary

The Naraku V.2 CNC clutch bell is an excellent piece of hardware and can be used on stock, as well as highly tuned engines. On all engines it will increase engine traction to the rear wheel and improve clutch lifetime by keeping it cool. Given the excellent build quality, perfect looks and the low price of just 60€ we fully recommend the Naraku CNC clutch bell over any standard clutch bell. The only improvement we would like to see for the future is the support of the Stage6 clutch spring pre-load feature.
